Justin HerzogSan Diego City firefighter, Competitive Crossfitter, Adventure athlete
Justin Herzog is an O2X Lead Instructor who is a full time firefighter with the San Diego City Fire Department. He has 9 years of experience with San Diego and 3 years of volunteer experience prior to being hired there. Justin grew up in the Washington DC area, played sports through high school and joined the fire service after his athletic career ended in college.
He moved to the west coast in 2001 and fell in love with the beaches, mountains and way of life out there. When he’s not on Engine 12 or Truck 12 in Southeast San Diego, you can find him at the beach, snowboarding on a mountain somewhere in the west, or at Crossfit Invictus in downtown San Diego, where Justin trains as a competitive crossfitter.
He joined Invictus in 2012 and became a competitor in the sport of crossfit in 2013, competing at a high level in the Crossfit Games Open, the Granite Games, Proving Grounds Competitions and numerous firefighter/crossfit events, including winning a silver medal at the 2016 US Police Fire Games.
His drive to compete in crossfit, though, stems from his passion to be the fittest firefighter he can be, always focused on how his training translates to making him better prepared for the demands of the job.
Justin is also an avid traveler and loves great stories, great coffee, and an ice cold beer. Contrary to popular opinion, he actually DOESN’T want to talk about crossfit. But if you bring up hip hop music, the NBA, or Game of Thrones, he’ll talk for hours.
